Dec 09, 2019
Chelsea Sodaro finished 3rd in IM70.3 Indian Wells. The BMC-Vifit athlete crossed the line in a time of 4:17:48. Paula Findlay (CAN; 4:07:37) took the victory with Alissa Doehla (USA; 4:15:04) crossing the line in second place.
After the swim, Chelsea Sodaro came back to shore in 4th place, very close to 2nd place and less than a minute back from the leader. After a fast transition, Chelsea jumped on her bike in 3rd place.
On the bike, Sodaro kept 2nd place within reach during the first half of the bike leg. Towards T2, she was battling with Doehla over 3rd place. The BMC-Vifit athlete entered transition with a deficit of 1’30 over 2nd as she started the closing half marathon. Chelsea was determined to give her all and started chasing Benner to go after that 2nd place. She immediately was able to cut down the gap and made her move around the 7k mark. A few kilometres later, Sodaro had to settle for 3rd again as Doehla made the pass. Chelsea kept extending her advantage over 4th place as she stayed well in control of that final podium spot. After 4:17:48 the American crossed the line to claim 3rd place.
Afterwards Sodaro looked back at her peformance: "Third place for me today. I asked my body for another big day and it wasn't quite there. Today was a tough one for me, but I’m proud that I finished it off with a podium. I think that I’ve shown my consistency this season and I can’t wait to get back to work and come back stronger next year. Congratulations to Paula who had an outstanding performance, and she’s a friend, so I’m very happy for her.
